Preparing For Your Marriage License Application

Generally both you and your future spouse will need to be present for the application process at your local county office. You will both need to bring identification, generally a drivers license, passport or state ID card are acceptable, but some states may require additional information such as a birth certificate.

You may be required to provide additional information for your marriage license if you or your partner were previously married, this may include proof of divorce or a waiting period may be required since your divorce. Some states may require a blood test to verify that applicants are not carrying venereal diseases, but this has recently been abolished and many states and now only applies for Mississippi and Montana.
